Project: Tile on Gally Stove Backsplash
(click on any of the small pictures for a large one!)

Why

Just because.

And because that stainless steel sheeting is hideously ugly, especially when it gets all bent up as mine was.

Where

Did this while already in the yard having the windows replaced.

The Job

I started with some thin backing board cut to fit the size of the stainless steel openings - two sides and a back. I then attached some thin strips as "framing" around the edge.

Finally, just glue the tile on (I used thickened epoxy) and grout.

It helped to stain and varnish the frame trim before doing the tile. I put blue tape over it while doing the tile work.

To make it a little more interesting, I found one of those online-picture-coffee-mug sites on the internet that also did 4" x 4" tiles!.

I sent them four digital (.jpg) pictures of all 3 of our previous boats (and the original picture of the former Sarah Ann). For $6.00 each (including the tiles!), I got a really neat addition to the boat.

Results

Very easy job, and a much nicer look than bent-up stainless steel sheeting.
